Pictures from Near Bunclody
The arrival of the Olympic Torch in Bunclody during its tour of Ireland before our
national Special Olympics in Belfast.
Amongst those on stage is our own County Councillor Barbara Anne Murphy and Members of the
Garda and PSNI
Standing beneath our commemorative monument to the world Special
Olympics in 2003 when Bunclody played host to Burkina Faso from Africa, are our two
competitors in the National Special Olympics, Elaine Murphy and Donna Farrell. Also in the
photo are law enforcement members and local organiser Fran Stephenson.
We all wish the best of luck to Elaine and Donna.
The presentation of the cheque to the Homecare Cancer Group during
the American Tea Party in Meadowlands recently.
Pat Lennon in fine form as he tries hard to keep pace with the
rapidly changing positions of the competitors during the fiercely contested Mall duck
race, held recently during our annual festival of fun organised by the Bunclody Active
Retired Association.
A local organiser has asked me to let it be known
that the scandalous rumours of cruelty to these birds during these races are totally
untrue and that the welfare of these birds was overseen by none less than our retired
policeman and former presidential candidate Derek Nally
A very enjoyable walk -that I took part in myself- through historic
Bunclody. I have to say that I could have listened for a lot more hours to the
knowledgeable and sometimes comical anecdotes of Cannon Wall. Roll on next year.
