225TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF BUNCLODY

I am gathering together a group of pikemen/women to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the battle of Bunclody. This will consist of a march around Bunclody on or about the 1st of June. There will be a need to have your own pike and appropriate clothes (mostly that will be black pants, white shirt and waist-coat). We will have 4 or five nights/evenings training in the lead up to it. I will post more here later. So get your gear ready and please spread the word.
Send me a WhatsApp message so that I can create a group for easy contact. 0879081440
This will be a once off event and we'll disband after the event.
Walter Skelton

We will hold our first Pike group meeting on Wednesday 3rd May at 7:30pm in front of the RC Church in Bunclody. You don't need a pike or uniform at this meeting, but bring them if you have them. Looking for-ward to seeing you all there."

Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

In the Middle East, it was the task of the shepherd to find water and pasture and to ensure safety. In your life who have been the people who nourished you and gave you security? For whom have you done this?

Important to the shepherd’s ability to give security to the sheep is the fact that he was known and familiar to them. They recognised his voice. Does this resonate in any way with your experience?

We are familiar with the image of Jesus as the shepherd. The image of Jesus as the door (or gate) is not so familiar but is one that merits attention. Jesus presents himself as the door through which we pass and find life. What are the doors through which you have passed and found life; a situation, a place, a book, an experience, a person? For whom have you been a door to a richer life?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

‘TAKE THE RISK FOR CHRIST’ is the theme of the ‘Year of Prayer and Promotion of the diocesan priesthood’ that begins this Sunday, the ‘World Day of Prayer for Vocations’. We include video promotions, articles and resources for parishes and faith communities. We have a homily, the newsletter insert and a talk on vocations given by Archbishop Rino Fisichella in Maynooth this week. We have articles that mark the feast days of St Athanasius and Blessed Edmund Rice and a video by Irish poet and theologian Paul Murray on Faith, Poetry and how God captures our attention. Finally, as April draws to a close, we focus on the Pope’s intention for this month which was to pray for a culture of peace and non-violence. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
