This great feast has come around once again. In
previous times people had looked forward with hope and
expectation. They longed for someone to lift the
burden of oppression and darkness from their
shoulders. Then there was an exciting jump in the
heart. “The people who walked in darkness have seen a
great light.” The source of light and hope was the
birth of a child.
“For there is a child born to us, a son
given to us and dominion is laid on his shoulders.”
Jesus Christ was that child for us. He is
our source of light. He calls himself “the light of the
world.” People can only be a light if they enlighten
each other. They can do so by informing the mind
and the heart. That is exactly what Jesus came to do.
He came to shed light on God and on ourselves. He
came to reveal to us that God was not a distant and
unconcerned figure. In a very human way he made it
clear that he as the Son of God was a compassionate,
caring and loving person. “For this is how God loved
the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone
who believes in him may not perish but may have
Jesus proved to us that God was Love
itself and has an infinite interest in each of us and
wants the best for us all. Jesus also came to
enlighten us ab out ourselves and about
what we are called to be. He is the measure and
benchmark of what we can be. If we adopt his generous,
compassionate and loving lifestyle we can be wonderful
people making this world a much different place to
what it is. May the Lord bless you all with joy and
happiness this Christmas and may your families glow
with peace and goodwill during this season.
