Bunclody ICA - New members needed
It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has
always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to
keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the
demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new
members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest
speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet
once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do
not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours
to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going
by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
The first of the faults attributed to the rich man is his
insensitivity to the abject poverty of those around him. When have you
discovered that it is when you are aware of the needs of those around
you and seek to make some response that you bring out the best in
yourself?
The second fault attributed to the rich man is the way he ignored the
word of God coming through Moses and the prophets. How have the gospels
, the scriptures or your faith opened you up to a deeper and more
satisfying perspective on life?
Some people look to the spectacular for a sign of God’s presence and
action. For Jesus the lessons we need are not to be sought in the spec-tacular,
but in the ordinary things of everyday life. Where have you found
reminders of God’s presence in the world around you?
‘An authentic faith - which is never comfortable or completely
personal - always involves a deep desire to change the world, to
transmit values, to leave this earth somehow better that we found it …
All Christmas, their pastors included, are called to show concern for
the building of a better world.’ (Pope Francis, Evangelii gaudium , The
Joy of the Gospel, No. 183)
THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK
The Gospel for the Twenty-Sixth Sunday of Ordinary
Time is the parable told by Jesus about the rich man and Lazarus. It is
appropriate for the ‘World Day of Migrants and Refugees’ which falls
this Sunday. A challenging reflection by Pope Francis is offered for
this occasion which highlights the plight of millions of displaced
people.
We feature an article on how the late Queen Elizabeth was a witness to
her deep Christian faith followed by articles on St Vincent de Paul and
St Therese of Lisieux, one of the patron saints of ‘The Hook of Faith’.
We have light and wisdom by Lorcan Brennan and finally, Fr Chris Hayden
sheds some light on recent NCCA documents that touch on the sexual
education of our children. Check out these and other resources available
at www.thehookoffaith.com
