THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

On Monday next we celebrate the marvellous Feast of Christmas. It is the most remarkable moment in the history of mankind. God decides to come into history in a way that nobody could have expected. He chose to appear as a human infant in the person of Mary’s boy child, Jesus Christ. He emptied himself of all the trappings of Godhead in order to arrive as a human infant.
In this way the incarnation took place. God dresses himself in human flesh in order to make it easier for all of us to understand his ways with us.Christmas is the feast of love. Gods love is expressed for us in the birth of a humble infant. Jesus came in this way in order to convince us of Gods love and interest in each of us. All of us are of great importance in his eyes. Because we are important to him he chose to come among us in this way, as a baby in swaddling clothes and laid in a manger.

If we think about this great truth a little we cannot be content with shrugging our shoulders and saying “so what”. Our faith brings us to celebrate Christmas by sharing in the Eucharistic celebrations of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
But we cannot be content with a solitary statement of our faith on the Feast of  Jesus’ birth. Every time we come to mass we say yes to the love of God shown to us in Jesus. We say thanks for Gods interest in us and start a flourishing life of faith that acknowledges and confirms Jesus great love for us when he came to us as an infant whose first home was in Bethlehem.

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

  • The Parish of Bunclody/Kilmyshall shall be a community:
  • Of renewed faith and commitment to Christ expressed in prayer and genuine Eucharistic worship where all participate fully.
  • With deep respect for and interest in each and every person.
  • Flourishing in love, care, support, co-operation, education and communication, building to the unity of the Body of Christ.
  • Reaching out the hand of welcome to all who do not belong to our faith and worshipping community.

Please let your priest know when a family member is in hospital or sick at home
