Bunclody ICA - New members needed
It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has
always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to
keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the
demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new
members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest
speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet
once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do
not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours
to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going
by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
In the prayer Jesus gave us as a model, the focus is not on getting
God to do what we want, but on trying to be open to what God wants:
‘Your Kingdom come’. That openness implies a trust that what God wants
for us is our good. When have you found that it was good for you to take
life as it comes, trusting that the Spirit was with you no matter what
happened?
It can be helpful at times to pray the Lord’s Prayer with one eye on
what you see lies ahead for you in the day. Spend a moment thinking of
what you have to do and then take each phrase of the Lord’s Prayer and
see how that speaks to your agenda.
One of the points in the parable of the friend knocking at the door,
is that in the case of true friendship it will not be necessary to
brow-beat the friend into giving what you seek. Recall times when you
had a friend who gave willingly and readily. What was it like to have
such a generous and willing response? Perhaps you can also recall when
you have been that kind of a friend to others.
In the culture of the Middle East hospitality is a priority. It would
be unimaginable not to help a friend. Just so, it is unimaginable that
God will ignore our prayer. When you think of reliability of God what
are the images that you find helpful and that encourage you to persist
in prayer?
THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK
This Sunday we celebrate ‘World Day for Grand-parents and the
Elderly’. We share resources to mark this day and give thanks for the
dignity, wisdom and faith of our senior citizens. We have a homily for
the Seventeenth Sunday of Ordinary Time where Jesus reveals God as a
loving parent and teaches us to pray the ‘Our Father’. ‘The Family –
Seedbed for Vocations’ is the second article of a three-part series on
the family. Bishop Robert Barron probes why many young men are turning
to become mass murderers following the latest shooting in America. As
the Church prepares to beatify Pope John Paul I on 4th September, we
explore who was the late Albino Luciani. Finally, more light and hope
from the pen of Lorcan Brennan. Check out these and other resources
available at www.thehookoffaith.com
