THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
On Tuesday next we celebrate another Christmas day. The name of the
feast suggests that we are thinking of Jesus who was the Christ or the
Anointed Messiah. Generations of expectation and looking forward came to
an end with the birth of Jesus. It was by any reckoning, a remarkable
and outstanding occasion. God intervened in our world. He came to us as
a hu-man baby, born in humble and distressing circumstances. Jesus was
both God and man. If we met Jesus during his time in this world 2000
years ago we also would have encountered the Son of God. Ad the prologue
of the Gospel puts it, "The Word became flesh, he lived among us."
Jesus came to our world to bring home to us the great love that God
has for each of us. We are of great value in his eyes and he wants us to
appreciate that great truth and adapt our lives accordingly. He would
like us, at this sacred time, to revive and renew our faith, to deepened
our relationship and friendship with him as we reflect and pray about
his original coming to us 2000 years ago. He came to bring peace built
on justice and goodness. We wish everybody in the parish a very happy
and peaceful Christmas distinguished by the joys of a real family
occasion.
