Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

The image of a boat in a stormy sea is a symbol of life in difficult times and is an image of the inner turmoil, anxiety and high emotions we then experience. Has your faith in the presence of the risen Jesus been a help to you? Recall the memory and give thanks.

The image can also be applied to a family, a community, a parish, or any other group. Perhaps a ‘Jesus-person’ in the group came to your assistance and calmed you down? Remember people who have had a gift of bringing you peace in troubled situations.

The significance of miracles in the gospels is that they show Jesus as one who brings God’s power to bear on human need and suffering. Have there been times when you have been a channel for this healing power of God, holding a crying child in your arms, calming the anxiety of a friend, or being a peacemaker in a group to which you belong?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

‘Hope Does Not Disappoint’ is the theme of Pope Francis’ message to the Church in advance of the Jubilee year of 2025. We feature the whole document and include some extracts as newsletter inserts. We have a homily for the Twelfth Sunday of Ordinary Time where Jesus calms the storm and some more resources for this ‘Year of Prayer’. In an article entitled ‘Miracles at Knock: Encounter, Art and Healing’, Jim Thompson reflects on a recent visit to our National Shrine. We reflect on the witness of Saints John the Baptist, Peter and Paul in advance of their feast days and offer an article on St Irenaeus and why he is still a pivotal player in how we understand Christian faith today. As summertime begins, we have an article on the importance of rest and renewal. Bishop Robert Barron shares advice to young priests to follow their gifts and conclude with more light and inspiration from Lorcan Brennan. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
