225TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF BUNCLODY

I am gathering together a group of pikemen/women to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the battle of Bunclody. This will consist of a march around Bunclody on or about the 1st of June. There will be a need to have your own pike and appropriate clothes (mostly that will be black pants, white shirt and waist-coat). We will have 4 or five nights/evenings training in the lead up to it. I will post more here later. So get your gear ready and please spread the word.
Send me a WhatsApp message so that I can create a group for easy contact. 0879081440
This will be a once off event and we'll disband after the event.

APPRECIATION EVENING FOR FR JIM BYRNE

Cummann Luthchleas Gael - Tig Leath Slí Bun Clóidí are having an appreciation evening for Fr Jim Byrne in the Horse & Hound Hotel, Ballinaboola on Monday 5th of June 2023 (Bank Holiday) at 3pm. Fr Jim ministered in our parish from 1965 to 1981 and is the man that started underage football in the club and Rackard League football schools. He brought great Rackard League success in the 70's which paved the way for senior success in the 80's. This is a great opportunity for all former players and parishioners to honour Fr Jim with his family and friends. There will be a buffet lunch and entertainment with a Bunclody flavour to it on the day. We are looking for photos of Fr Jim both sporting and religious related. Please send any material you may have to: Liam Kelly 0872440702 liamoceallaigh1960@gmail.com or Alan Murphy 0863851019 tamurphy09@gmail.com

Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Jesus joined the despondent disciples and listened to them. ‘We had hoped…’… When you have been upset or disappointed, who has joined you along the road? To whom have you been able to pour out your heart? Who was a ‘Jesus person’ to you, listening to you in respectful silence? To whom have you been a Jesus person?

Jesus then helps them to see things in another light by opening the scriptures to them. When did you have the experience of finding your heart ’burning within you’ with new hope for the future? Who/what helped you to change after a setback?

The disciples invite Jesus to join them at table– there follows a recognition of who he is. We meet many people on the road of life. Usually we meet and pass on. Occasionally we meet someone whom we invite into or homes, into our hearts, in a deeper way. In what way in such relationships have you experienced the presence of God or of Jesus?

After Jesus had gone the disciples went to bring the good news to others. When have you met others who told what happened to them along the road? What effect did this sharing have on you? When have you done this with others? When was such a conversation ‘good news’ for you or others?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

The Gospel for this Third Sunday of Easter is the encounter of the risen Lord with the despondent disciples on the road to Emmaus. A homily on the text points to the importance of both accompaniment of each other on the pilgrim path and the centrality of teaching and catechesis that lifts our spirits to new horizons of hope. Fr Tony O’ Riordan gives an update on the situation in Turkey/Syria in the region where the terrible earthquake happened a few weeks ago. We continue with the series ‘The Creed in Slow Motion’ and have articles on Saints Mark and Catherine of Siena whose feast days fall this week. Finally, two inspiring videos – the first on wanting to be a saint and the second on what happens when we adore Jesus truly present in the Eucharist. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
