Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light’… Jesus applies this to himself and his message. Who have been the Jesus people who have been a source of light to you? Have you been such a light for others? His Message was a call to repentance, to a change of attitude toward God, from seeing God as one to be feared, to seeing God as a God of love. When have you heard that call in your life? What was it like for you?

Jesus invited disciples to join him in his mission. In responding, the disciples ‘left their nets’ to follow Jesus. Sometimes we have to disentangle ourselves from other things to give ourselves freely and wholeheartly to a commitment. Have you experienced being ‘enmeshed’ and being free? Where did you find life?

In v23 we have a summary of the ministry of Jesus—’proclaiming the good news of the kingdom’ and witnessing to this by teaching and healing. Who have been the people you have known who have witnessed to the ‘kingdom’, the reign of God in our world? What have been the signs that accompanied their witness? When have you done this yourself?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

Walking Together in Faith and Love’ is the theme of Catholic Schools Week that begins this Sunday. We have resources and reflections including a great talk on the education of the whole person. This Third Sunday of Ordinary Time is also known as ‘Word of God Sunday’ when we highlight the centrality of Scripture in the lives of all Christians. We have an article and the newsletter insert on the meaning of this Sunday. We look forward to the feast of St Frances de Sales on Tues. 24th Jan.and include a letter from Pope Francis that marks the 400th anniversary of the saint’s death. We also include an article on St Thomas Aquinas whose feast falls on 28th Jan. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
