In the Gospel, this weekend, Jesus has an important promise for his people, for all of us. "I shall ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate (Paraclete) to be with you forever." Some of us have been to a court of law and there we may need a barrister to assist us and plead our case. The Paraclete is very like a supporter in a court of law. Jesus has the Father send us the Paraclete in order to support us and assist us in living as Jesus would want us to. Jesus call this supporter the "Spirit of Truth". As the Spirit of Truth, in the church, he will do as Jesus tells us later. "When the Spirit of Truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth since he will not be speaking of his own accord, but will say only what he has been told." The Holy Spirit will come to us and will give us a feel for God. He will enable us to understand better the teaching and the life of Jesus. As the love bond between God and his Son he will convince us of the love of Jesus and of God for each and all of us. He will enable us to make that love our own, will build a loving spirit in our own hearts and assist us to be loving people and help us to shape our lifestyle on the example and model of Jesus Christ.

What is called for on our part? Through prayer and reflection we will become more aware of the place of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The more in tune we are with him and with his presence in our hearts, the more likely it is that we will embrace that lifestyle of love that he prompts us to live.

  • The Parish of Bunclody/Kilmyshall shall be a community:
  • Of renewed faith and commitment to Christ expressed in prayer and genuine Eucharistic worship where all participate fully.
  • With deep respect for and interest in each and every person.
  • Flourishing in love, care, support, co-operation, education and communication, building to the unity of the Body of Christ.
  • Reaching out the hand of welcome to all who do not belong to our faith and worshipping community.

Please let your priest know when a family member is in hospital or sick at home
