Bunclody ICA - New members needed
It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has
always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to
keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the
demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new
members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest
speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet
once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do
not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours
to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going
by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Sunday’s Gospel is about two women who were friends of Jesus. Jesus
came to their house and Martha welcomed him in and then went to prepare
a meal for her guest. Mary just sat at Jesus feet and "listened to him
speaking". Martha was not too hap-py that Mary left he to do all the
serving and preparation. She asked Jesus to tell Mary to help her. Jesus
responded to her, "Martha, Martha, you worry and fret about so many
things, and yet few are needed, indeed only one. It is Mary who has
chosen the better part; it is not to be taken from her." What is in
question is two approaches to life. Both are necessary. But Jesus
prefers Mary’s approach as being better. That does not take away from
the generous service of Martha.
Jesus wants us to choose Mary’s approach first. It is most important
that we are aware of the presence of Jesus with us. He is with us all
the time, but we can ask ourselves – How much time do I give to him? He
would like us to spend time in his presence, to listen to his word,
maybe it is a word he speaks in our inner ear, or, maybe, we remember a
word of his from the Scriptures. We listen to his word, we respond to
his word in our own inadequate language. We have a conversation with him
which enriches our friendship with him and leaves us with the distinct
feeling that the time spent with Jesus is well spent.
If we spend good time with Jesus on a regular basis in our prayer and
conversation with him the odds are that we will be inspired to help out
and offer moments and hours of service to family, neighbourhood and
community. The Spirit of Jesus is a loving Spirit who prompts us to
translate our inner love into down to earth service and practical
action.
THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK
The Pope’s prayer intention for July is for the elderly and an
appreciation of their place in every family and society. The newsletter
insert is taken from ‘The Joy of Love’ where Francis speaks of the
elderly as guardians of memory and teachers of tenderness. The recent
‘World Meeting of Families’ celebrated in Rome in June had the theme of
‘Family Love – a Vocation and Path to Holiness’. An article unpacks this
theme in the light of family life today. The homily for the Sixteenth
Sunday of Ordinary Time focuses on Jesus’ encounter with Martha and Mary
followed by a reflection on the life of St Mary Magdala. David Quinn
reflects on the recent National Maternity Hospital controversy and
finally our video this week is a provocative take on the situation in
Ukraine by Fr Brendan Kilcoyne. Check out these and other resources
available at www.thehookoffaith.com
