Bunclody Union of Parishes

..are inviting you and every one you know, to a Coffee Morning and Raffle at St. Mary's Rectory, Ryland, Bunclody in aid of the Red Cross Appeal for Ukraine at 10.30am on Easter Monday 18th April. There will be a Raffle with great prizes, such as a load of firewood, hamper, spirits, wine etc. The Raffle will be drawn at 1pm. Please come along and help to raise funds for this vital humanitarian crisis.

Holy Week Ceremonies

Holy Thursday 14th April Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 8:00pm.

Good Friday 15th April Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3:00pm.
Ecumenical Good Friday Service at 7:00pm.
It will start with prayers and hymns in St. Mary’s Church. There follows a precession with the cross from St. Mary’s Church to the Church of The Most Holy Trinity Followed by prayers and Taize Chants around the Cross in the Church of The Most Holy Trinity. The ceremony begins on Good Friday evening at 7:00pm in St. Mary’s Church

Holy Saturday 16th April Mass at 9:00pm.

Easter Sunday 17th April Mass at 9:00am & 12:00 Noon.

First Confession

Congratulations to all second class students who received their First Confession on Thursday 7th April in the Church Of The Most Holy Trinity Bunclody.

First Holy Communion will be held on the 14th of May for all second class students.

Church Choir

Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

ALONE have launched a national support line and additional supports for older people who have Concerns, or are facing difficulties relating to the outbreak of COVID-19 Coronavirus. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK 

We meet this weekend in a spirit of joy. We celebrate the remarkable resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It is the most extraordinary event of human history and cannot be brushed aside because of the strength of evidence that supports it. Jesus appeared to his disciples on a number of occasions and talked with them when he joined them. It was three women who had the first experience. They had prepared spices to embalm the body as soon as the Sabbath was over. Their first surprise was that the stone had been rolled away from the mouth of the tomb. When they entered the tomb the body of Jesus was not there. Two men in brilliant clothes suddenly appeared at their side. They were angels. An-gels often have a definite purpose when they appeared in the Gospel. They explain the meaning and significance of the events that took place. So, they said to the women, "Why look among the dead for someone who is alive? He is not here; he has risen." They also reminded them of Jesus prediction in Galilee that he would rise from the dead on the third day. Over the next few weeks there will be a number of accounts of the risen Christ appearing to the apostles and disciples.

St. Paul is very conscious of the place of Christ’s death and resurrection in our own lives. Baptism was a celebration of our taking part in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Those being baptised went down into a pool of water and ascended on the other side. We died with Christ to sin. That was very true with adult baptism. When baptised sins were forgiven. Then there began a new life. After people ascended from the pool they put on a fresh whit garment indicating that they had taken on a new life of relationship and union with the risen Christ. If we sustain that relationship during our time in this world we will continue to live with Christ and anticipate the final resurrection for the dead which is the ultimate blessing of salvation.

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

It’s Easter once again and with renewed conviction and hope we join with the whole Church to proclaim that Christ is risen and that God’s love is the greatest power in the world. We include inspirational quotes from the saints on the mystery of the cross as a symbol of love. We have a meditation on the Lord’s Supper by Scripture scholar Scott Hahn and a homily for Easter Sunday. Included is an article on the close proximity of cross and resurrection as mysteries that interpenetrate our lives. ‘A Spirituality for our Times’ is one day conference organised by the Sisters of St John of God that takes place in Ballyvaloo, Blackwater on 13th May. All are welcome. ‘The Hook of Faith’ takes this opportunity to wish all our followers a very happy Easter.
