Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

In Sunday’s Gospel Jesus introduces us to a new personality, namely ,the Paraclete. "I shall ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever." The Paraclete is an advocate. He is like a barrister in the court of law. He assists the person in court to state and argue his case. That is one of the roles of the Holy Spirit in Christian life. In our Gospel he is the Spirit of Truth. Jesus brought us the truth. It was the truth about God and the truth about ourselves. The Spirit of Truth or the Paraclete helps and supports us to understand the revelation and the truth that Jesus proclaimed and lived for us. With his guidance and light the Holy Spirit enables us to penetrate, comprehend and understand the truth of Jesus. He helps us to make that truth our own and to live it in practice as best we can. The Holy Spirit keeps us in tune with Jesus himself as we build an ongoing friendship with him. He prompts us to live the life of love which is central to Jesus commandments.

In St Luke’s Gospel and Acts of the Apostles the Spirit has a very different role. He enables Jesus and the apostles to proclaim the word of God. When the Spirit came on the apostles at Pentecost they abandoned their fear and powerfully preached the word of God. Later in the Acts of the Apostles the disciples had another Pentecost moment. "As they prayed, the house where they were assembled rocked. From this time they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God fearlessly." (Acts 4:31).

We have different views of the Holy Spirit. They are not unrelated. We cannot proclaim the word of God with conviction unless the Spirit has guided us to assimilate the word of God and make it our own.

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

‘Well-Being’ is a word that we hear more today and a concept that shapes education programmes in our schools and other institutions. But what does it mean? The newsletter insert offers a Catholic definition of the term. We have the webinar from Mgr. Stephen Rosset-ti’s input on priesthood based on his new book ‘Priesthood in a Time of Crisis’. We offer a homily for the Sixth Sunday of Easter that contemplates Jesus’ fare-well words at the Last Supper. We continue a video series that helps young believers discern what true love looks like. Bishop Robert Barron outlines five animating principles of the new evangelisation and finally, a few words of appreciation and a prayer as ‘The Hook of Faith’ celebrates its fifth birthday on 18th May. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
