THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Today is the 104th World Day of Migrants and Refugee's, and this
year’s theme is ’Welcoming, protecting, promoting and integrating
migrants and refugees’. In his message to mark the day, Pope Francis
spoke of our responsibility, as individuals, communities and Church, to
welcome everyone, particularly those who have been forced to leave their
home in search of a better future.
Every stranger who knocks at our door is an opportunity for an
encounter with Jesus Christ, who identifies with the welcomed and
rejected strangers of every age. This is a great responsibility, which

stranger, as ourselves. We all have opportunities to do this in our
In today’s gospel Jesus invites the disciples to ‘come and see’ where
he lives. He welcomes them into his home and they stay with him for the
rest of the day. The example of Jesus encourages us to be welcoming, to
extend a warm invitation, and to spend time with others in friendship.
