We are moving very gently through the season of Advent. Advent is meant to direct our attention to the coming of a Saviour for all mankind. In this Sunday’s Gospel John the Baptist began to wonder if Jesus was “the one who was to come”. Jesus gave him a swift and decisive answer. “Go back and tell John what you hear and see; the blind see again, and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear and the dead are raised to life and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.” Jesus asserts that he is engaged in saving action and fulfils the expectation of the great prophets like Isaiah. He freed people from limitation and disease. This present salvation points forward to the even more significant work of salvation which brings people to God and to eternal life. This was Jesus’ important mission. It sprang from his love of humankind and his desire to bring everyone into the company of God.

John the Baptist played an important role in introducing the Saviour to our world. John was the greatest prophet with a very clear message. “Look, I am going to send my messenger before you; he will prepare your way before you.” How well are we preparing a way for the Lord? Are we giving more time to tinsel and decoration than we do to setting our hearts right and ready to welcome the Lord when he comes at Christmas time.

  • The Parish of Bunclody/Kilmyshall shall be a community:
  • Of renewed faith and commitment to Christ expressed in prayer and genuine Eucharistic worship where all participate fully.
  • With deep respect for and interest in each and every person.
  • Flourishing in love, care, support, co-operation, education and communication, building to the unity of the Body of Christ.
  • Reaching out the hand of welcome to all who do not belong to our faith and worshipping community.
