Bunclody ICA - New members needed
It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has
always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to
keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the
demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new
members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest
speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet
once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do
not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours
to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going
by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
In Sunday’s Gospel there are three wonderful parables that capture
our attention. The first is about a man who has lost a sheep and goes in
search of it until he finds it. When he does so he call in his
neighbours for a celebration. But it carries a message. "There will be
more rejoicing in heaven over one repentant sinner than over ninety nine
virtuous men who have no need of repentance." God rejoices when we
repent, when we return to our true selves having followed for some time
a false way of life. The story of the woman with the ten drachmas is
similar She rejoices with her friends and neighbours that she found the
one she lost. Again we are reminded that there is rejoicing in heaven
over one repentant sinner.
But the story of the prodigal son is one of the great stories of the
bible. A man had two sons. One wanted his share of the estate so he
could go off and live his own independent life. He did just that. He
lived a life of debauchery and self-indulgence until all his money was
spent. Then a famine arose in the country he had chosen. Now he felt
desperate. He hired him-self out to a pig farmer to feed pigs and would
gladly have eaten the husks the pigs were eating but no one offered him
anything. But there was still some good in the heart of this man. He
came to his senses and carefully considered his situation. "Look at the
servants in my father’s house and they can eat what they want." So he
decided to make a drastic change. He decided to go back to his father
and humbly acknowledge his failings. "Father, I have sinned against
heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be called your son; treat
me as one of your hired servants." So he headed home. When his father
saw him coming some way off he went out and welcomed him. "He ran to the
boy, clasped him in his arms and kissed him tenderly." Then he ordered a
celebration which is also symbolic of how God celebrates when we turn
away from sin and live as God has designed us to.
THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK
‘The Way we Were’ is a new book published by Mary Kenny. In a video
interview, she takes a look back over developments in Ireland in recent
decades and acknowledges the positive contribution of faith communities.
The news-letter insert is an extract from one of the few homilies given
by Pope John Paul I who was beatified in Rome last Sunday. The homily
for the Twenty-Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time explores the beauty of
God’s love that seeks out and ones who are lost and wounded. We have
reflections for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross and the Feast
of Our Lady of Sorrows. Finally, we have the recording of the recent
webinar on ‘Supporting Catholic Parents’ given by Fr Chris Hayden. Check
out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
