THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Conflict is very much part of life. It happens for various reasons. Sometimes it may be an innocent re-mark that was taken up as a personal criticism. Very often there is a question of a serious remark that does damage to the other, Very often it may entail a genuine struggle to achieve rights, Whatever the reason conflict causes constant suffering, very often, the case for both parties. Frequently it expends serious energy that could and should be directed to more worthy causes.
If conflict occurs it is important to bring it to an end as quickly as possible, Reconciliation is the only solution. It means that both parties get together and calmly talk about the matter that gave rise to the disagreement. If people cannot settle them-selves, then they should take the initiative to bring in a third person to help them towards a resolution. More often than not people do not have the discipline to focus on the issue. The discussion becomes personal and what follows is more emotional hurt and anger. Good communication is absolutely essential in resolving difficulties between people. Communication means listening intensely as well as speaking. If we do not listen we fail to understand and so the keys to reconciliation are often ignored. What is more important, the issue of conflict or the relationship? The relationship should always come first.
