Bunclody ICA - New members needed
It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has
always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to
keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the
demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new
members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest
speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet
once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do
not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours
to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going
by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
In Sunday’s gospel a lawyer approaches Jesus and tries to throw him
off balance. He asks, "Master, what must I do to inherit eternal life."
Jesus asked him about what was written in the law. His response was
excellent. "You must love the Lord your God, with all your heart, with
all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your
neighbour as yourself." Jesus assured him that if he did this life would
be his. This is the key to a good and genuine life. Anxious to justify
himself he put to Jesus another question, "And who is my neighbour?"
Jesus replied with one of his great stories or parables. The road
from Jerusalem to Jericho was a very dangerous road. A man was assaulted
by brigands and left half dead on the side of the road. A priest passed
by and ignored him. The same was true of an-other priestly figure, a
Levite. He also ignored him. Then a Samaritan came by, took pity on him,
bandaged his wounds and poured in the current medicine, oil and wine,
and brought him to the nearest inn or hostel and offered to pay all
expenses. Jesus asked the lawyer the obvious question. "Which of these
three, do you think, proved himself a neighbour to the man who fell into
the brigands’ hands?" His response was, "The one who took pity on him."
The one who took pity on him was the Samaritan. Samaritans were despised
by the Jews at the time. There was hostility going back for hundreds of
years. It began when Samaria was planted with foreigners who
intermarried with the natives. Even the Samaritan woman, in St. John’s
Gospel, was surprised that Jesus would talk to her. Jesus point is that
everybody is our neighbour. They may be different, have different
culture, conduct, colour, and race. What matters is that every human
person is our neighbour and deserves our respect and care
THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK
Pope Francis has just published a new document named ‘Desiderio
desideravi’ on the liturgical formation of Catholic Christians. We have
the document in full together with a commentary on the context, meaning
and content of letter. We have a homily for the Fifteenth Sunday of
Ordinary Time where Jesus puts before us the parable of the Good
Samaritan. We explore what the overturning of Roe vs Wade might mean for
Ireland and the homily given by Archbishop Eamon Martin at the ‘Day for
Life’ rally in Dublin last Saturday. We have reflections on the feast
days of Saints Benedict and Bonaventure and highlight the work of the
organisation ‘World Priest’ and what they do to support priests around
the world. ‘Check out these and other resources available at
