THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
In Sunday’s Gospel we have the story of the miraculous catch of fish.
The disciples has worked all night but had caught nothing. After Jesus
finished preaching from the boat he asked Peter to put out into deep
water and pay out the nets for a catch. They netted such a large number
of fish that the nets were tearing. They asked the companion boats to
come to their assistance and they did.
Peter was deeply moved by what had happened. He saw Jesus at work. He
concluded that he had powers beyond any human person. This was the
action of someone who had exercised the power of God. He fell at the
feet of Jesus and said, "Leave me, Lord; I am a sinful man." Confronted
with the calm power of Jesus, Peter came to realise who he was. He was
unworthy to be in the presence of Jesus. It is also good for us to place
ourselves in the presence of Jesus. It is also good for us to place
ourselves in the presence of Jesus to discover who we really are. There
we will find out whether our living and lifestyle is true or false.
Jesus is the measure of all we can be. He was the image of God. His life
was marked by holiness and loving commitment to his Fa-ther. We were
also created in the image of God. The question for us is: where are we
in relation to Jesus, the perfect image of God?
