APPRECIATION EVENING FOR FR JIM BYRNE

Cummann Luthchleas Gael - Tig Leath Slí Bun Clóidí are having an appreciation evening for Fr Jim Byrne in the Horse & Hound Hotel, Ballinaboola on Monday 5th of June 2023 (Bank Holiday) at 3pm. Fr Jim ministered in our parish from 1965 to 1981 and is the man that started underage football in the club and Rackard League football schools. He brought great Rackard League success in the 70's which paved the way for senior success in the 80's. This is a great opportunity for all former players and parishioners to honour Fr Jim with his family and friends. There will be a buffet lunch and entertainment with a Bunclody flavour to it on the day. We are looking for photos of Fr Jim both sporting and religious related. Please send any material you may have to: Liam Kelly 0872440702 liamoceallaigh1960@gmail.com or Alan Murphy 0863851019 tamurphy09@gmail.com

Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

The disciples are in a state of shock and suffering from a traumatic loss. Jesus, the one in whom they had placed so much hope, has been murdered and buried. Then, before they have time to recover comes another shock– the body of Jesus is missing. Have you had experiences in which one tragedy or crisis follows quickly after another? What was that like for you? How did you cope? What, or who, sustained you then? Mary and Peter, and possibly others, came and discovered that the tomb was empty. The part of the story we have in this text gives no explanations of what has happened. They are left in a state of bewilderment ‘for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.’ have you been in that kind of situation, faced with events you cannot explain, possibly events which have dashed your hopes in another person, or in God? What has that been like for you? Yet in spite of the lack of explanation, the beloved disciple ‘saw and believed’.

  • Have there been times when others have done something that you could not understand, and which they could not explain at the time and yet you believed that all was not as it seemed?....times when you decided to trust in spite of the evidence?

  • Have thee been times when others have shown this kind of faith in you when you were not able to offer satisfactory explanations, and all you could say was ‘trust me’?

  • Have there been times in your relationship with God when you have felt that you were faced with an empty tomb and still you believed?

  • Where have you found life in such experiences?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

‘He is Risen!! The cry of hope and joy echoes in the Church and around the world on Easter Sunday. We have a homily and the newsletter insert on what it means to be an Easter people at this time. Speaking of new life, while we rejoiced at the first actor with Down Syndrome to win an Oscar, the disturbing truth emerging in Ireland is that 95% of children diagnosed with Down Syndrome are now being aborted. We shine a light on this truth that tends to be ignored or minimised. We have a recent talk given on ‘Europe and the Faith’ and conclude the series of meditations on ‘Jesus Seven Last Words’. Finally, a video from ‘Word on Fire’ explores ‘The Lost Art of Conversation’. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
