Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Personal prejudices and agendas can block us from listening to what another person has to say. Who do they think they are? Perhaps you have experienced this. What difference has it made to you when you were able to focus on the content of what was being said and leave to one side your own prejudices about the speaker?

It has been said that there is nothing as useless as the right advice at the wrong time. We may want to reach out to another but may be unable to because at that moment the other person is not ready to be helped. Like Jesus we can ’do no deed of power’. As Jesus had to be patient and wait for another opportunity, so do we. What have you learned about the importance of patience in working with others?

Religion easily brings up prejudices. Some dismiss religion as superstition, old hat, or based on an outdated world view. Even among believers, prejudice can make it hard for individuals to listen to an alternative way of looking at things, to consider a different way of celebrating liturgy, or to live at peace with difference. Yet a closed mind can lead to a stagnant faith. When have you found that a willingness to consider a different perspective led to a deepening and strengthening of your faith?

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

To mark ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’, Pope Francis spoke out about the evil of drug abuse – a problem that is having an impact in every village, town and city of our country. We have a homily for the Four-teen Sunday of Ordinary Time where St Paul gets in touch with his own ‘thorn in the flesh’ and realises the power of God’s grace for: ‘When I am weak, I am strong’. Neil Foley shares another article with us and Mgr. James Shea talks about how we can bring the Gospel to a Post-Christian world. On the feast of St Benedict who is co-patron of Europe, we revisit the original vision for the European Union and what it means for citizens of individual countries today. Finally, we explore the place of beauty in catechesis and how the beauty found in creation, music, art and the lives of the saints can draw us closer to the source of beauty who is God.

Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
