Bunclody ICA - New members needed

It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going by so many wonderful women in the past.

Please phone 087 2805426 or 086 8135587

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

A commandment of love is something of a contradiction in terms. Love is a free choice. That is what gives the thrill to the experience of being loved. Recall times when you received gestures of love from another -
• a spontaneous embrace from a husband or wife;
• a wave from a friend;
• words of comfort and affirmation
Not because the other person felt obliged to reach out to you but because they wanted to let you know you were loved. What effect did that have on you? Did it bring you joy? Perhaps you have had a glimpse of the truth of what Jesus said, that it is in loving that our joy is complete.

Often love and friendship make demands on us. Parents give freely of their times and energy to the care of their children but sometimes it requires a lot of effort. Also, in responding to the needs of friends or spouses we can be challenged to "lay down" our own "lives" at least for a time. Can you recall when a time when putting yourself out for others bore fruit for them and for you? "I chose you". Have you had the experience of being "chosen" by someone? What was it like for you to be chosen? What was it like for you to consider yourself as one chosen by Jesus? That is what we are—chosen by Jesus and commissioned to bear fruit through our love.

THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

‘Synodality Explored: Facing the Future Together’ is an article by Jim Thompson who recently attended a conference on synodality in Knock. The homily for the Sixth Sunday of Easter focuses on the fundamental vocation we all share in common, namely to love one another as Christ has loved us. ‘For the Formation of Men and Women Religious and Seminarians’ is the Pope’s Prayer intention for May and we ask the question of whether we Catholics still love the Eucharist and why. Fr Eamonn Conway summarises a recently report on attitudes and behaviours in Catholic schools that highlights the importance of education as a formative experience. In advance of the ‘Day for Life’ celebrated on 16th June, Lord Alton explains the reasons why we should be concerned about the protection of life and why a recent programme on Ireland’s abortion laws was hopelessly imbalanced. Check out these and other resources available at www.thehookoffaith.com
