Bunclody ICA - New members needed
It is 70 years since ICA was started in Bunclody. The guild has
always been very active in the parish for all those years. We want to
keep that tradition alive. But, due in no small way to Covid 19 and the
demographic ageing of our members, we are desperately looking for new
members to join our guild. We meet once a month and have a guest
speaker. Sometimes have various crafts, etc at our meeting. We also meet
once a month for coffee and chat in local restaurant. Sadly, if we do
not get new members, we may have to close the guild. If you have 2 hours
to spare, once a month, and to keep the guild open, which was kept going
by so many wonderful women in the past.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
The words of Jesus in Sunday’s Gospel seem both off putting and
distressing. "If any man comes to me without hating his father, mother,
wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes and his own life too, he cannot
be my disciple." It seems very harsh indeed. But the Greek language
translates the Hebrew and Aramaic language used by Jesus. If we go back
to the original it can appear less strong. It would read like this. "If
any man comes to me without loving less or preferring less his father
etc." What Jesus asks for is that we give himself first priority, that
we give him a central place in our lives. If we do it will not mean any
lessening of our love for members of family. What he advocates above all
is our love of each other, beginning with family. Once our primary focus
is on Jesus we will do our best to be good disciples of his and we do so
best by adopting his loving way of life.
At the heart of his way of life is the cross. "Anyone who does not
carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple." Mention of
cross can put us off. But it need not. If we are to be loving people the
cross will be a regular and frequent feature in our lives. Every time we
put ourselves out for each other we will feel the pain of the cross. If
we have to abandon our favourite TV programme to respond to an urgent
need on behalf of the person we love the discomfort and the cross will
be evident. But, the expression of love shown will give us a sense of
fulfilment and well-being. Jesus accepted all the suffering and pain of
the cross to demonstrate his love for us. We will be often called up-on
to confront difficulty and overcome it in order to build mutual love
with the person who is important for us. In carrying our cross we become
disciples of Jesus who learn from him the key to a good and fulfilled
life. There is no better way.
THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK
Loving beauty early’ is the title of the second part of a reflection
on how we can introduce each other to the concept of God as beautiful
and the source of all beauty. The newsletter insert is an invitation
from Pope Francis for us to dream for a better world and we reflect on
the great hope for parents that emerges from the recent feast of Saint
Monica. We have a homily for the Twenty-Third Sun-day of Ordinary Time
where Jesus outlines the cost of discipleship and encourages strategic
planning. A reminder of the zoom conference lead by Fr Chris Hayden on
supporting Catholic parents and finally, the inspiring story of a
Hollywood actor who has converted to the faith following his cast-ing as
Padre Pio in a new movie. Check out these and other resources available
at www.thehookoffaith.com
