THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
This weekend we celebrate the Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ. What
is in question is the Death and Resurrection of Jesus. Jesus died to
show us his own and his Father’s love for us. His passion and physical
death was the measure of the extent of his love for us. St. Paul was
very aware of the significance of Jesus’ death where all of us are
concerned. He sums it up very well in the Letter to the Galatians. The
life that I am now living, subject to the limitations of human nature, I
am living in faith, faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave
himself for me. Jesus loved us by giving himself for us. St. John’s
Gospel is very conscious that God loved us through his Incarnate Son who
came to us as a human person. For this is how God loves the world (of
mankind) he gave us his only Son so that everyone who believes in him
may not perish but may have eternal life.
God’s love through his Son, Jesus Christ reaches and touches us all.
In Baptism, we were drawn into the death of Jesus. He died to all that
was connected to sin within himself. In Baptism we also begin that
journey to dying to sin and taking on the new life of relationship with
the risen Christ that is out life’s purposes. That life is ours if sin
stays on the outside and we live the Easter experience to the best of
