What to See and Do in the Bunclody Area

  • Wander around Bunclody - a historic and beautiful little town - see the beautiful Mall and linger in the lovely town square or by The Mall stream.Avail of the unlimited free parking in Bunclody as you wander through the shops, pubs and restaurants. Drop out to Kilmyshall and visit the grave of Eileen Aroon in the old graveyard at Ryland Hill.
  • Drive out towards Mount Leinster and see the Nine Stones and enjoy the spectacular views along the Blackstairs Mountains.
  • Visit The Chantry Restaurant and Gardens and enjoy delicious food in a delightful setting. The Chantry was formerly the town's Methodist Chapel. (John Wesley, founder of the Methodists, visited Bunclody twice, in 1769 and in 1787.)
  • Pay a visit to Newtownbarry House (built 1863-1869), Gardens and Gallery and see the central panel of the Ros Tapestry, part of a community project which, when finished, will be the largest Tapestry in Europe. See the recently restored 18th and 19th Century Sunken Garden. Group bookings taken. Newtownbarry House Art Gallery - Three person exhibition featuring David Begley, Mary Canty & Anthony Lyttle from Friday July 21st to Sunday August 7th.
  • Drive part of the 'Slaney Drive' - a scenic route along some of the quieter roads along the banks of the River Slaney.
  • Enjoy a Spa treatment in the four star Millrace Hotel, have a meal in the Lady Lucy rooftop restaurant and experience a panoramic view of Bunclody.
  • Play tennis, visit Bunclody's own outdoor heated Swimming Pool, and play the community Play Ground, all at the Carrigduff Complex.
  • Enjoy the 'craic' in one of Bunclody's many public houses for the varied attractions during the festival -Pub Quiz, Pub Talent and the hugely popular Pub Theatre.
  • Enjoy a walk or a cycle along any of the beautiful country roads in the area and enjoy views of breathtaking scenery.
  • Walk 'The South Leinster Way' from Kildavin to Borris (14 miles / 22km). From Kildavin our way takes you along quiet country roads but soon ascends via steep dirt roads to the forest. The "Nine Stones" at Mount Leinster offers amazing views of the Barrow Valley and Brandon Hill.
